Crafting the Perfect Mother’s Day Gift: Handcrafted Planter Bowls with Pansies

Mother's Day is a time to celebrate the women who nurture, inspire, and love us. What better way to show appreciation than with a handmade gift? This year, I combined creativity and thoughtfulness to create personalized planter bowls adorned with pansies. Here's how you can make your own!

What You'll Need

Step 1: Mixing and Pouring the Resin

Start by preparing the ceramic resin as per the instructions on the package. If you'd like to add a pop of color to your bowls, mix resin-safe coloring into the resin before pouring. Stir well to achieve an even shade. Pour the mixture into the silicone mold, filling it to your desired level. Gently tap the mold to release any air bubbles, then let it cure according to the recommended time.

HINT: It dries very, very quickly and will be hard in 60 minutes. Also, DO NOT put uncured mix in your sink. It will clog pipes. I use disposable mixing cups with measurements on the side.

Step 2: Adding Personality with Alcohol Markers

Once the resin has fully hardened and you’ve removed the bowl from the mold, it's time to bring it to life! Use alcohol markers to decorate the surface with designs that speak to you—floral patterns, geometric shapes, or even abstract art. Let your creativity shine through, as this is what makes your gift unique.

Step 3: Enhancing the Finish

For a polished look, consider using a glassy finish spray or a resin-safe sealant. This step not only adds a beautiful sheen but also protects your artwork and extends the bowl's durability.

HINT: Don't do this inside. Go outside, and set your piece on cardboard before you spray. Follow the directions on the can.

Step 4: Planting the Pansies

With plants that get watered, I drilled a drain hole into the bottom before planting. Then prepare the planter bowl by adding soil and planting delicate pansies. These vibrant flowers are not only beautiful but symbolize loving thoughts—perfect for Mother's Day.

Step 5: The Finishing Touches

Once your planter is complete, you can add a small handwritten tag or card. Share a heartfelt message to make the gift extra special.

Why This Gift Is Meaningful

There's something truly special about a handmade gift. It reflects thoughtfulness, effort, and love. These planter bowls not only serve as a charming decorative piece but also as a living symbol of the care you put into them. The bowl above I made for my mother for her birthday.
